My parents have been married 35 years and here is our family--we're too big for one stick family picture!
What they have taught us...
Laugh a lot.
Make mistakes but know we are there for you.
Follow your dreams.
You can choose your friends but you can't choose your family--this is normally when one of us is doing something embarrassing--but your family may be the best friends you've got!
Scrabble is super competitive--apparently my dad is the County Champion.
Vacations are so much fun when we are all there.
And so much more...
Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad.

Baby Crafts--Photo Props--Timeline

So my friend Tiffany posted about these BB Blocks a couple weeks back. At the price of $40 and not all that impressed with the colors I thought I bet I could make something I would love. So I found these tutorials from Martha and my new fave blog, How Does She, and set off for the craft store. I found some 2 by 2 blocks for 50 cents a piece, 2 plaques for less than a dollar a piece, some scrapbook paper I loved, and a bottle of Modge Podge.

Luckily Tiffany has a Cricut and offered to cut my lettering for me. And here are the final results: Gotta learn to work around that flash!

Look for pics with Baby Byrd once she gets here!

Poetry for My Little One

In my history class this week, we wrote object poems from something we had in our bag. I happened to have this ultrasound picture in mine and here is what I wrote:

I am photo, shiny and blurry
I am smooth to the touch
A square within a rectangle
I am shadows and light, playing together

I am like all the other moments
caught in time and framed
on your walls

As Kevin examined me, his hands shook
in wonder at the image captured
with in, his long fingers
traced the figure.

I remember the first time you
saw a picture like me,
the first time you had a glimpse--
the wonder

If I asked you what will be my dream

Then I think you will say
that the world is full of bright colors
shade and shadows, noise and quiet,
moving and stillness.

It's Our Anniversary

So year 2 has had its ups and downs as we have further settled into marriage, our jobs, and our town. But I can't imagine doing it with anyone else.
We still reach for each other in our sleep.
Kevin still opens doors for me and holds my hand in public.
I still love cooking for him.
We still say I Love You throughout the day.
We would still do it all over again (if only it was too soon to have a vow renewal party!)

Baby Crafts: Bow Holder

After seeing tons on etsy for 20 bucks or more and most using the wooden letters which I didn't want, I came up with this

A backless frame from Hobby Lobby (50% off sale) 10 bucks, 3 spools of ribbon (50% off sale) 2 bucks, a little painted applique 2 bucks and some hot glue. A little hanger to show off her collection priceless!

Baby Crafts: Name Sign

Inspired by this blog post, my sister and I hit the craft store to see if we could duplicate it. Michael's had a frame sale so we got the shadow box at 40% off, splurged on the Martha Stewart Butterfly punch, and just bought scrapbook paper since it was 50% off instead of driving to the hardware store to get paint chips. We bought foam letters since we couldn't find wood ones we liked and don't have a paper cutter. I think all together we spent about $40. Forgive all the mess in the background, I took the picture after getting home from our baby shower.
